Welcome to the memorial page for

Mrs. Rebecca M Smith

September 25, 2017

Rebecca McIntyre Smith was born in Hoke, NC on July 21, 1954 to the late James Marshall McIntyre and Reba McNeill.  She entered eternal rest on Monday, September 25, 2017.

Mrs. Rebecca was an honor’s graduate of Hoke High School.   Following graduation, she met and married the love of her life Obie L. Smith, Sr on April 7, 1973. This marriage lasted for 44 years.  To this union was born 3 children:  Obie Smith Jr,  Stedman Smith , Elisabeth Hallmon and Khamora Smith.

Mrs. Rebecca was a kind, considerate, dedicated, soft spoken, nurturing, loving mother, mother-in-law, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and mother figure in her church and community.  Although she grew up in the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Church, Rebecca became a faithful member of Freedom East Presbyterian Church.  There, she demonstrated her strong faith in God through service on several church committees including the Women’s Ministry and teaching the Children’s Sunday School.

Mrs. Rebecca worked tirelessly by her husband’s side to assist those in need in any way possible.  She did so by providing hot meals, childcare or after school care in her home free of charge for working families. She worked very hard in the hope of the preservation and sanctity of family.  Mrs. Rebecca never hesitated to share her wisdom and knowledge with all who would seek her advice.  She served as a confidant to her family members, friends and neighbors allowing her to develop many special relationships within the family and community.  She exhibited through words and deeds that she answered a higher call as expressed in Matthew 25:31-40 as she tended the sick, the hungry, the homeless, the uneducated and anyone else who would knock on her door in need of some type of assistance.

Mrs. Rebecca was a firm believer in education.  She promoted a love for reading, often teaching family members and neighbors to read.  She always provided guidance, encouragement, tutoring and motivation to the youth of her family and community. She did so leading by example.  She received her Bachelor Degree from St. Andrews College in Laurinburg NC.  In 2002, she was ordained as a Minister in New Beginning Non-Denominational Church, Raeford NC. She attended Bible College and received numerous awards throughout her life.  She was also an entrepreneur and owned many businesses including the Beauty Salon in memory of her deceased mother.

Mrs. Rebecca was preceded in death by parents James Marshall McIntyre and Reba McIntyre her brothers and sisters Jydell Taylor and Ardith Elaine “Molly” Roberson-Snead.

Left to cherish everlasting memories of her love and affection is her loving and devoted husband Obie L. Smith Sr. two sons:  Obie Smith Jr. and Stedman Smith of Raeford NC; two daughters Elisabeth Hallmon and Khamora Smith of Raeford NC: and two devoted grandchildren: Destany Smith and Obie Smith III; two sisters Machalle McIntyre- Love, and Ann McLaughlin and brothers James McIntyre (Brenda) and James Mcintyre Jr, Charles Eveans. Additionally, she leaves aunts, uncles, all of whom adored her, and other relatives and friends.

Although Rebecca McIntyre Smith was a quiet and unassuming woman who shied away from recognition and public accolades, her family knew that she was the glue that held the family together.  As her family reflects on the words adapted from one of her favorite songs, “Something Beautiful”, they know that her presence will be missed forever.
